  • @cbot I know it feels like forever to wait.  I feel for you. But you're doing the right thing focusing on your stamina and recovery. The healthier you are the better response you'll have to whatever they do.

@KarenBemi LOL, realized that after I suggested you check in with him. I have no problem with sharing who I am, although I do respect other's desire for privacy and confidentiality. So I'm Kathi Robb and my husband is Wayne King.  If you don't get to Closson in your tour you can always add a curated tasting to your plans for Monday.  Wayne does them at the Ridge, down the road. It's their production facility...nice cozy fire, four tastings with food pairings, and some history about the wine business in PEC and Closson itself.  You have to reserve in advance though....I think via email but the Closson Chase website should have that info. And BTW, he's not only knows his stuff, he's funny as heck!
  • I really enjoyed the symposium.  There was so much great information
  • Oh ok, @cbot, thanks! That's what I was wondering about - but thought I heard that the condition was one of the complications of all gynecological cancers.
  • Can't stay and chat any longer today ladies.  Have to get back to work....dang it.  Have a great day and week everyone.
  • My understanding is that the concern for bowel obstruction relates to where a tumor is attached to the colon or adhesions are attached to the colon.  As they grow, the probability of compressing the colon increases.  Like you ladies no one ever really mentioned anything on that front to me.  But after I had somewhat recovered I decided I needed to lose some weight so went on Weight Watchers, which is very high fibre in it's construct.  After a couple of months I was losing weight but developing some bowel irregularities so they sent me to the cancer center's dietician, who was the one to tell me that I really should have been on a low or med-low fibre diet.  So I switched and have been fine ever since.  Now I can't recall if her recommendation was standard to anyone with abdominal cancer or just if you're having problems or a predilection to a problem.
@tinazzie if you're fine on the diet you follow you're probably ok with it but it wouldn't hurt to run it by your medical team just to confirm.
  • Not sure @Tinazzie - maybe some of the other members know how common malignant bowel obstruction is for ovarian cancer?
  • I recently turned vegetarian, and eat mostly vegetables, beans, lentils, etc. so I'm glad I don't need to switch to a low fiber diet at this time!  By the way, I am cheating somewhat, and have re-introduced fish and chicken broth to my meals for added protein after my diagnosis!
Yes, the symposium had a lot of interesting information.
  • I enjoyed the symposium too! I struggled a bit with the audio, but I was able to take most of it in.
  • @KarenBemi Glad you were able to make it for a while. Enjoy your weekend in PEC.

@Tinazzie and @cbot...as I understand it a bowel obstruction is not uncommon. That doesn't mean every one gets an issue. But I know several gals within my personal circle who've had to be treated; luckily most with just medication and rest of the colon and not surgery so far.  But that's one reason they always ask about your bowel health during a check up.  For me I'm at risk.  I'm so full of adhesions that some are glued to my colon and some have actually fused parts of my colon together so the likelihood of a problem for me is high.

  • Welcome @CountryLiving Glad you were able to connect with us today.  It's been a bit of an eclectic conversation today.
  • OCC has had a lot of great feedback on the Symposium. Personally, in the almost four years since I first engaged with them, I found it the most helpful thing they've done for us.  And from what I hear, they're looking at continuing the practice and maybe more frequently than one per year.
  • How are you feeling now, @cbot?  I know the fatigue stays on longer than we usually expect.  Last week I felt so drained some days and it took a lot of effort to pick up the pieces again.  But feeling a little more like myself this week.

Hope all goes well with your upcoming scans @fearless.
  • Thanks for asking @Tinazzie. Slowly feeling better. I've been using this "vacation" from chemo to pursue some naturopathic treatments, with my oncologist's blessing. I think they are helping to boost my energy.
  • That's great, @cbot.
  • I am going to sign off now. Have a great week everybody!
  • Gals, about time for me to exit for today but hoping to see you all again next week.

@Tinazzie I know what you mean about the fatigue as do many of us. It ebbs and flows and some days you feel like you'll never get rid of it. But some do completely, others to a manageable and acceptable level. It's just one of many things they don't prepare us for as we leave primary care.

@cbot hang in gal.  I feel for how disappointed you are with the results of first line treatment but you're not alone and for many second time around has been the charm.  And glad you're looking at some naturopathic support. That's something I want to look into as it's not promoted where I am but in talking to someone in BC yesterday I understand there's a huge focus on combining the alternatives to common practical medicine.  Hmmm, maybe a topic we could all explore more down the road.

@rad, @CountryLiving glad you joined us today.

Until next week ladies......onward and upward !!!!

  • Bye everyone...until next week - have a good one!
  • Have a great weekend everyone!!!

November 12 !  How has November moved along so fast?  But WELCOME to today's live chat.

No more reminders about the survey. Today is a thank you to those who took the time to complete it.  They hit at least 624 in responses so everyone is doing the happy dance.  A few straggler responses from over the weekend to be counted so it might even be higher.  Hmmmm, sounds like the US election vote counting :p . Anyway, that should provide OCC with some very robust information about us and our experiences.

For some of us down here in the southern part of Ontario, it's been a second summer for the past week. I guess our last hurrah before winter hits. Today, for my area, the chill is back in the air though, although nice blue skies so a walk from my house down to our lake front might be a nice diversion this afternoon.

So wonderful yesterday to see how many different ways people were able to honor our veterans, given gatherings were not encouraged in most places. It just goes to show that in the worst possible scenario, like a pandemic, how resourceful we are and how life just goes on, although maybe in a different way that we have been used to. It's not unlike having this disease I expect....it's there but we manage around it and continue to move forward.  <3

So how about getting started gals?  How is everyone today?  Anything new to share? Any questions for the group? What's new in your life?  Who's got their holiday shopping done already???
  • Hello All! Just a quick comment on the survey...I was really impressed with the questions on the survey and the depth of the areas that were included. As you say @Fearless - Vol Mod it should provide some great data as researchers move forward.
  • @Readersmaven glad to see you there.  I'll make sure your comments are passed on. I know those involved in the survey will appreciate them. How are things?
  • Hi @Fearless - Vol Mod, I won't be able to join you all today but will check out the discussions later this evening. Have a good session.
  • And Howdy.. @cbot and @kattie666 Glad to see you with us.
  • Hi everyone! Hope you are all doing OK.
  • Hey @Tinazzie Sorry to hear you're unable to participate today but happy to know you value these discussions. Hope all is well.
  • @Fearless - Vol Mod... I'm good,  like you, I've been enjoying the recent warm weather and trying to focus on positivity. I have CT scan end of next week and we all know where our thoughts can go in the lead up to that.

  • Hi ladies, glad to be here today!
  • Hi Everyone!
I started Christmas shopping yesterday and took advantage of this wonderful weather to get in couple of 2 hr bike rides, I'm impressed I was able to do them. I also initiated the back to work protocol with my insurer, looks like it will take one or two weeks for the processing.
  • @BeamBlossom glad you were able to make it.   @cbot, I can say some expected but disappointing news at my end this week.  The Olaparib has run it's course and I'm off the drug now. Back into chemo in a few weeks to wrestle this recurrence that's been stable for close to two years into the ground. Good news is the growth of the two tumors is new and not huge. And I bought myself close to two years I can add to my life expectancy and that has kept me out of chemo for almost four years so this upcoming round should be as effective as it is was first time around. So, not all bad...all things considered.
  • @Readersmaven, I learned I will be having a CT scan at the end of this month, to make sure there is nothing brewing. I can appreciate your scanxiety. I'm started to think this is a mental disease as much as a physical one.
