Community Connection: Ovarian Cancer Canada is looking for volunteers! Could you help?

OVdialogue – consider joining our team in the role of Community Champion. Over a few hours each week, you would be part of a team that helps connect people, support conversations and are thought leaders for OVdialogue. This is your opportunity to give back to those who have/continue to support you through the tough times, share your unique experiences, and help celebrate successes. For more details of what this entails, please reach out to @Mfallis (mfallis@ovariancanada.org).
Ovarian Cancer Canada is thrilled to share that we have some exciting updates on the way for OVdialogue. These enhancements are designed to strengthen our community and make your experience even better.

Stay tuned for more details, and feel free to share your thoughts below. Let’s make this community even stronger!

  • It's that time to say goodbye for another week.  What a great group today. Thanks everyone for taking the time to join us and share your thoughts, frustrations, joys and experieinces.

For those who are new to OVdialogue, if you want to continue discussion on a particular topic check to see if there is a Discussion thread already open that you can join or open a new one yourself.

I do hope everyone has a good week ahead.  For all of us, who spend so much time worrying about the future and allow that to impact our ability to plan for and live our lives...let me leave you with this thought:

Let your hopes, not your hurts, shape your future.”

Cheers for now ladies. Hope to see you again next week.
  • Thanks to all - hope to connect again next week!
  • WELCOME !  Thursday, October 5 and here I was thinking it was Wednesday until a few moments ago.

We had a larger than usual and very enthusiastic group last week, as you can see if you review that chat. And that included some new members who recently joined OVdialogue.  So glad to see so many finding us...whether newly diagnosed or just wanting to share their own experiences and support others.

I can't help but mention the weather. I'm in SE Ontario and we're back to double digits and sun and blue sky. I hear from my son out in Alberta that the Chinook has hit and they're at record highs.  So wonderful to be able to catch this last bit of nice weather before the winter hits.  I'm sure no snowbunny!

One final reminder about the survey.....I understand they've hit over 500 participants now which is great. So thanks to those who have completed it. For those who haven't, it's still open until tomorrow.  No better time than today to get it done.  Go to: https://ovariancanada.org/everywoman to participate. This is your opportunity to have your voice heard and be part of driving the important changes we need that will enable us to live longer and better lives.

So let's get started with today's chat.  What's on your mind?  Anything new to share?  Anyone else still glued to the US election LOL?
  • Hello to @cbot, @KarenBemi, @Rad....happy to see you're with us today.
  • Good day,  Yes, I am still watching the news every chance I get. Can't turn off the train wreck

  • I hope you are well
  • @KarenBemi, I feel the same.  But it's just fascinating watching it all unfold.  And think, once they finally do declare a winner the real "fun" begins!  So wonderful to have something to think about other than these old bones of mine!
  • @Fearless - Vol Mod.Glad to be in today's chat and I am enjoying these few days of double digits On

  • I am "Betting"  That Nevada will the next state to call it....and they will do it strategically based on the Betting in the Vegas Casino's stats

  • Hello everyone! Pleasant weather here in Windsor ON.
  • @KarenBemi am gearing up for a CT tomorrow. Gosh I hate those. Mainly because my veins have become problematic. So hydrating like crazy today. I'll find out on Tuesday if I stay on Olaparib or it's now lost it's efficacy enough that there's no point continuing.  Trying not to worry. I know my oncologist always has something in her bag of tricks and nothing I can do to change the outcome so ready for anything.

How are you and how is everyone else?
  • I am really good.  Like the @Rad & @cdot , i am enjoying the warm weather.  Heading to Prince Edward County for a day or 2 this weekend so, I have that to look forward to.

@Fearless - Vol Mod - Good luck with the CT.  Wishing you positive results.
  • Hey @Tinazzie Glad to see you with us again today.
  • Hello everyone...sorry to be a bit late.
  • Best wishes for the CT @Fearless - Vol Mod. I can relate to the anxiety that it provokes, given my recent disappointing results...

    Sorry to hear that @cbot
  • Hey @Tinazzie Glad to see you with us again today.

@KarenBemi I'm just on the other side of Prince Edward County...across the Glenora ferry in Adolphustown.  It should be a wonderful weekend here.  And lots still going on in the County.  What do you have planned?

  • Thanks @KarenBemi. I appreciate the support - just FYI, I am cbot, not cdot :)
  • @cbot thanks.  Any more news on your status?  Or waiting for that next scan and blood work to find out next steps?
  • @Fearless - Vol Mod...we have no idea what we are doing.  It is a surprise...even to us.  I bought my BFF a roadtrip for her birthday, and it is a surprise.  Even to us.  It is like a scavanger hunt.  When we get to our first destination, we open the next envelope which takes us to our next destination.  Here is the link.  Looking very forward to it and it might be  great idea for some of the ladies.

  • Just corrected cdot to cbot in the comment.  Didn't even know we had a cdot LOL.
  • Oh good, I wasn't the only one
  • Best wishes on your CT @Fearless - Vol Mod
  • @KarenBemi Just lookedd at the site.  How cool is that?  I hope you have a good time, I'm sure you will.  My husband is with Closson Chase so if you end up there say hello.  He might be in the winery itself but usually down the road doing Curated Tastings.  Love to hear where they took you and how it was when you return home.
  • Thanks for the name correction! Yes, @Fearless - Vol Mod, I'm waiting for next scan and bloodwork mid-December. Based on results, the oncologist will suggest next steps. In the mean time, I'm trying to get a bit stronger for whatever comes next!
  • You will have to tell me you either His name...or Yours before I say high to him...lol.  I will definitely let you all know where we go and what we will be doing.  We are staying overnight in wellington so on Monday, we are exploring on our own.
  • Thanks everyone for the good wishes on the scan.  I'll be just fine, regardless of the result.  The hard part is not trying to second guess the outcome between test and results...but you all know that !
  • I have a question following the recent symposium.  It's to do with the topic on Malignant Bowel Obstruction.  I was surprised to learn how strongly it was recommended to follow a low fiber diet - even for those not diagnosed with MBO.
I have previously asked my cancer care team on nutrition and diet, and a low fiber diet has never come up.  During chemo, I actually suffered from constipation, and at that time, I was advised to take in as much fiber as I could - fresh fruit, veggies, prune juice, etc.  All that worked really well for me and have been continuing with that.  But now wondering, if I'm doing the right things.  Have any of you been advised by gyne onc teams on recommended nutrition?
  • Hi @Tinazzie. I attended the workshop on bowel health too, but I got the impression that the low fiber diet was for those who were really at risk for obstruction.
  • @Tinazzie I was not given any specific nutrition recommendations or advice.  Mind you, I didn't ask for it either.
