Community Connection: Ovarian Cancer Canada is looking for volunteers! Could you help?
OVdialogue – consider joining our team in the role of Community Champion. This is your opportunity to give back to those who have/continue to support you through the tough times, share your unique experiences, and help celebrate successes. For more details of what this entails, please reach out to @Mfallis (mfallis@ovariancanada.org).

@Eileen yes refresh lol I laugh how many times I start to type then refresh ooops forgot to send but now have more type lol! And I agree with @Fearless - Vol Mod and doing the follow up enquiries whether it be waiting for a call back that never came, or expected item0
-
Yes i get a black notification on the bottom of my screen as well. I click on it. Ok thats good to know then. Temp here in Kelowna been pretty good it did try to snow the other day but nothing came of it. Been mild here as well.0
-
I just learned today how to refresh on chrome (on my phone). This ole gal CAN learn new tricks1
-
So glad you mentioned that recurrence session because I think I overlooked that. Will sign up today.0
-
Yes @ToughAsTeal i find that as well had to call 2 times in some cases.0
-
Beyond me @ToughAsTeal. Mine is an iPhone 8 I think and the screen is so small that generally don't use it for much other than checking my emails and texting. Although glad I'm generally user friendly since my BFFs daughter is getting married on Saturday up at Whistler and they are zooming the ceremony for those of us who couldn't attend. Very much looking forward to it.0
-
Yes @Fearless - Vol Mod. My emotions i find, are always their daily whether its crying or thinking about my cancer. I try everyday to keep busy took crocheting back up. With being off of work its been sometimes hard being stuck at home. I live by myself so. Just have my little dog and cats that keeps me sane. My kids check on me periodically as well.0
-
Oh that is so great @Fearless - Vol Mod that they are zooming the ceremony. Im glad you get to see the wedding.0
-
I just can’t imagine what I would do if I couldn’t FaceTime with our daughter daily (and sometimes even more!). Will you still dress up for the wedding?! Have someone take a picture of you with your device next to your face with pictures of you and the bride, groom, bff (I know of a gal who did this for the grandmother who couldn’t attend a destination wedding just before COVID)0
-
Yes @eileen, the need to follow up, at least for me, became much bigger once Covid hit. It seemed between shifting staff around to cover gaps in the hospitals, trying to manage around normal absences like mat leaves, and then what appeared, to me, to be a big increase in clinic patients it's not at all unusual to see balls fall through the cracks. I don't for a minute think the staff are inefficient, just overworked. I only worry about my own ability to follow up as my brain fog worsens. I do find this current chemo hasn't been the kindest to my memory cells. So I stick with my tried and true....makes notes and keep lists.1
-
@Eileen me too, so I have picked up the knitting needles again. I can’t do complicated patterns. Found an easy pattern for the Christmas Stocking I have promised my daughter I would make (um she has been waiting 19 years!). So I hope to have it done by Monday - family day holiday in Ontario.. BC too maybe? Knitting, colouring, I depart at times from doing something creative to give me a mental holiday away from appointments and treatments… then I realize what a good thing it’s been for me. Tell me what you are making?0
-
Oh I am sorry @Fearless - Vol Mod. I hope everything goes better. But i was also told the more chemo treatment you get the harder it will be. I started getting in the habit of writing a journal almost everyday. I agree the cancer clinic are over worked. As well as hospital staff, my hats are off to them since covid hit its been hard on everyone.0
-
@Eileen, I agree. Our emotions are sometimes just totally overwhelming and come at the strangest times. At least it's normal among us survivors so that keeps me from feeling I'm losing my mind. Just before we started today I was reading a new post by Strongwoman titled They Say It's Just Hair. Beautifully written and a shining example of the unexpected triggers that draw out such raw emotions, much of which we tend to hide from the world in general.
I'm happy to hear you have a family that checks in. Others who support you? I know it's not easy being "alone" with this disease. Pets can be such a salvation. I know when the last of my three cockers left us a year ago the hole in my heart was bigger than I'd ever experienced before. But now I have two gorgeous whacky pups to keep me occupied and to love....and nothing like the unconditional love they give back.0 -
Yes @ToughAsTeal i have an old lg g4 samsung phone. I am still learning how to do things on this phone. Had it for like 5 yes now. I also agree with you about the suggestion for the picture. @Fearless - Vol Mod you should do that.0
-
@Fearless - Vol Mod I just have a bff in alberta that i and her text daily or she calls me to check up on me more than my kids.0
-
@Eileen I looooved my Samsung 4! Crossed over just a year ago to the dark side and have iPhone like everyone else in our family.0
-
I did order those bedside books as well last week finally so havent received them yet0
-
@Eileen those books, are like having a friend talking to you. So well done.0
-
Hahaha @ToughAsTeal. I love this phone before this it was a flip up phone. Nope this is good for me. I do have computer and laptop though. Dont use them much since forever. Maybe i do daily play a city building game with my laptop. Forge of empires dont buy anything though just been playing that one for like 5 yrs now.0
-
Only disapointment in the game is they use the exact same layout for each city. No story behind it like pharoh pc game or the updated Cleopatra game i use to play yrs. ago when my kids where young.0
-
@Fearless - Vol Mod rain turning into bit of a gentle sleet from looks of things so I guess it will be your way in a few hours. Make sure you have fun at the wedding!! Can be all pearls and fancy up top and comfy pants and slipper below!
I hope you both have a good week … @Eileen crochet… even if crying… crochet💕0 -
Thank @ToughAsTeal. You have a great week as well. @Fearless - Vol Mod have a wonderful time with the wedding. I be taking pics with my phone hope you can have a great week too.0

Snail mail @Eileen I'm out in the country so I usually tag an extra day on to a delivery timeline but since Covid (gee easy to blame everything on Covid!) I've found at least three to four days additional for regular mail delivery. But as I said to my husband, I can wait. It's not as if I'm going anywhere LOL.
As for support....you now also have a community of close to 1000 here.1 -
Wow, it's after 2 already and time to say goodbye again for this week. Thanks for joining again this week ToughAsTeal and Eileen. Stay well, stay safe and hope to 'see' you both again next week.
Bye for now,

HAPPYTHURSDAY, APRIL 24 and WELCOME TO TODAY'S ONLINE LIVE CHAT.
A quick mention that last night's Speaker Series session on sexuality had to be postponed last minute. In case you didn't see the communication from OCC it's been rescheduled to April 20 at 7PM ET. If you had registered for last night you don't have to reregister. Your registration and link you received will automatically carry over to the new date. Hope this didn't inconvenience anyone.
Teal Teas are over for February and links are up to register for March. Once again 3 sessions ( March 15, 16, 17). Go to the OCC website under Local Events for more information and to register to participate.
Apparently OCC has a booth at the National Women's Show in Toronto March 4 - 6 if anyone is planning to attend the Show.
With so much opening up again I expect we'll be seeing many of the live in-person support groups resurfacing soon. Those that continued through the pandemic using online tools to stay connected may just opt to continue in that form, others may go back to live gatherings and some may even resurrect in a hybrid model. If you have any information regarding your own local groups please let me know and I'd be happy to share it here for those in your community to see...and give OCC a heads up for their Resources list.
On a personal note, yesterday was one of those bonus days for me. Blood work the best I've seen in six years. Oodles of energy. Even the neuropathy in my feet had mellowed out so that walking wasn't such a chore. I could honestly say that while I know I'll never be what I once was, I would be quite content to be like I was yesterday for every day I have left. And today, pretty good again outside of a bit less energy since I had my Cycle 4 Avastin treatment yesterday. Gosh, have I turned a corner? Gosh I sure hope this is sustainable. It will make the rest of the clean up from our septic back up Tuesday night so much easier to manage LOL. Seriously, I do feel born again and now in to my sixth year of treatment that's not too shabby gals.Well, 1PM and it's time to connect again. Let us know you're out there and how you're doing....or if you need anything from the group today..........
