Walk of Hope campaign

    Hello lovely Sisters,

This week I sent out several emails to friends and family about the Walk of Hope.  I will be attending the one in Victoria, BC on September 27th.  I also posted on Facebook a bit about my story and the reasons we need to find solutions to this disease. So far, $625 arrived from donors overnight and I am thrilled.

I am also doing a series of little paintings (5 x 7) called "My

Garden of Hope" and if they turn out okay, plan to sell them framed for about $25 each as another way to generate funds for the cause. I am trying to create 10 and then see how people respond to them. I am not a professional artist by any means, but they may like the meaning behind them, and the imagery too.

LeslieA, your paintings are beautiful !!  What a great way to productively raise donations and attention to fight gynylogical cancers.  Walking in September is something I'd like to do, but there isnt a walk  in London at that time. I am booked to teach a class on art journaling with a friend that Saturday at the Art Centre  near me. I have found it so therapeutic  and hope to help others use the concept to express whatever they are facing.

I have been doing more paintings as gifts, to give something personal to family members.
I find I need quiet time as much as social time, and that too many or large social events are  draining. I am thankful to have  an outlet  for expressing the feelings.
We are now on the east coast with family, and heading to a little cabin by Black River Lake. I look forward to soaking in the peace of nature.  Enjoy summer ladies !!

Sent from my Bell Samsung device over Canada's largest network.

    lbarr72,

The people who attend your workshop will be fortunate. Art journaling provides a powerful outlet for emotions, as you know so well. I am sure you will inspire these attendees with your art and your story. Giving your beautiful paintings to family members will be treasured by them for years to come. It is a lovely idea that I hadn't thought of. Thank you for providing me with some inspiration to do the same.

@LeslieA how amazing to have people donate so quickly. Well done you (and them). Also, your paintings are beautiful. The thought of selling them to raise funds is incredible. I can't wait to see them all and I would definitely buy a few (if you are able to ship them east 😁). Sometimes shipping costs are as much as the item itself in Canada so I could also buy a few and you could donate them to the Walk of Hope as I know the sites tend to have raffles or things like that the day of the event.

I do not have a creative bone in my body so am so envious of folks like you with this type of talent. I would put your work up there against any professional artist!!! BRAVO!!!

@LeslieA. Way to go!  That's amazing.  And the paintings are beautiful.  I love the idea of selling them for donation to the cause.  What's your team name? I haven't signed up I want to do it but I worry no one will walk with me or I won't get any donations. I'm sure it's just my brain but you know….

    Hi Meinvan,
I have no team *sniff* because I don't know any Teal Sisters in Victoria, so I am going solo. The Ovarian Canada setup makes it easy to fundraise. They provide a link attached to your name for the donations and you can even use their premade scripts to advertise the purpose of the walk. They suggest direct email contact at first with friends, family and associates with your personal details, and then expand to a social media platform to reach others. I got success on both sides: email and Facebook. I remind myself that this campaign is not for me; it's for all the women and girls out there who might potentially get this disease someday, or the ones walking around undiagnosed who don't know the typical symptoms, as well as the women who are ill with rare forms of this cancer and need better treatments. Those thoughts motivate me.
So I suggest give it a try. It doesn't matter if it is a small amount raised; it all helps.

@LeslieA excellent points and yes, you don't need to have a team to do fundraising. Thanks for sharing your overview of the process.

@Meinvan you don't have to get donations. You are a Teal Sister. If you are able to participate it's about showing your support in so many other ways!

Thank you for your supportive comments, Alwayslearning. It is interesting that I can't find the time to do art for my own pleasure, but if I have a project re: helping others, then no problem. It is a challenge to get the skills on board again, and it just takes lots of practice. If I achieve creating 10 little paintings, probably 3 or 4 might pass my standards. Regardless, I hope to sell a few to bolster the fundraising. BTW, my donations are at $1640.00. I am thrilled at people's kind responses to this cause.

Another exciting thing. On Vancouver's Global News this morning, I saw a typed news item re: calling for all Premiers across Canada to look into the ovarian cancer issue. I assume this relates to Elahere. 😃

@LeslieA amazing job on the fundraising! I'll have to look for that news item.

@mfallis_OCC ... are you able to find the news item? I'm assuming OCC is gathering them. I looked but couldn't find anything. You may have better luck.
