  • 1.  Walk of Hope 2026 Vancouver

    Posted 22 days ago

Dear Teal sisters, I will be participating in the walk and extend an invitation to anyone who wishes to join. This is for information only not to ask for donations. We have almost met our fundraising goal

    Save the date

On Sunday September 27th, my family and friends will gather at Queen Elizabeth Park for our fourth OCC Walk of Hope. This walk means the world to me and all people affected by OC… it is a time to reflect, unite, and take steps toward meaningful change.

Once again, I am sharing more of my personal story to help raise awareness about ovarian cancer. My hope is to encourage earlier screening options, push for more accessible treatments, and continue raising the critical funds needed for life-saving research. Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynecological cancer and reoccurs more often than most cancers…together, we can change that.

Despite the profoundly deadly impact of this disease, Ovarian cancer research remains desperately unfunded, making a break through challenging. I have been in treatment for four years and this cancer continues to metastisize to other organs and treatment options are few.
I genuinely hope to help change that in my lifetime.

How wonderful it would be to see a future where OC no longer steals precious time or dims the promise of tomorrow…a world where every woman can live her life with confidence, freedom and peace.

I would love for you to join us, whether you walk alongside us or support from afar, your presence and generosity truly make a difference. Every step taken and every dollar donated brings us closer to a future free from this miserable disease.

Many of you have supported this cause so generously in the past, and I am incredibly grateful. With your continued support, we can keep moving forward, raising our voices, and making an impact.

@florence2022 thank you for sharing. I'm sure even at your fourth walk (which is amazing), that it will continue to be an emotional and uplifting day. Wishing your team a great day.

Out of curiosity, where is Queen Elizabeth Park (i.e., what province).

@Alwayslearning Thank you for your well wishes. QE Park Vancouver's west side British Columbia. Our walk is pretty easy about 2K but has a big hill.
I love walking but have been unwell for a few weeks so also understand that it may be a little challenging for some people. I thought if anyone would like to join us they are welcome.

Your words of invitation are so beautiful and thoughtful, Lauren. I hope that you have many supporters on that day. (My sense is that there is some momentum building with the recent press coverage on OV, Elahere, and us getting the word out via email and social media platforms).

@LeslieA Thank you I have often admired your way with words and enjoy how you write from your heart. I have started walking again after weeks trying to recover from Rota Virus! Learned my lesson about eating raw seafood!!!

My journey of seeking better treatment options continues with uncertainty. I finished 5 radiation treatments to control tumours in my lymph glands and am also on oral chemo. Despite my efforts the cancer continues to present in other organs.

I asked for immunotherapy but am without the proper tumour markers. Fortunately I have and excellent Integrated naturopath who helps me stay healthy.

    Take care,

    F xx

I meant to write back to you Florence days ago, sorry. I have been completely immersed in my art-making for the Walk of Hope. To my surprise, several Facebook friends asked to purchase more of my little paintings when the others I posted sold out. So now I have several orders to complete before the walk. Pressure, but good pressure.

Back to you though. I am sorry to learn that these interventions are not working the way you hoped. That is troubling. I am glad you have a helpful naturopath. The role of having an integrated naturopath on board is of interest for me too. Seeing someone in person would be the only route for me, as I worry about the "big names" on the Internet who use recruitment strategies (sales calls) to commit to (what I assume to be) costly treatment plans. I guess I am skeptical.

I hope you are okay, despite these setbacks!

Dearest LeslieA, please never worry it sounds like you have a busy schedule as an artist…how wonderful to have a creative outlet whilst raising funds for OC.

My life has become day to day although I had an in-site recently that having goals was always part of my life philosophy…I intend to make it to the walk then my birthday in November, short attainable goals are important for me. 🙏🩵

It is unfortunate that integrated naturopathic practitioners are not more accessible to you. Have you tried in Victoria or asked Inspire Health for a referral. My naturopath has the FABNO designation which is a specialty in Cancer Care.

I notice that many cancer patients travel to see the naturopath for treatments. Earlier in my journey I consulted with Dr. Gurm then she advised a naturopath that was in Vancouver how to administer my IV's and Vitamin D shots. My follow up appointments were mostly on the phone or in person.

I have extended health insurance but usually have to pay personally for wholistic support care except with Inspire Health.

Please let me know if I may answer any questions and take very good care of yourself!

    Florence
