  • 1.  Walk of Hope 2025

    Posted 25 days ago

Yesterday was a beautiful day in Burlington, Ontario where I participated in the Walk of Hope. I had a team of 20 (we were the largest team) who tackled the 5km walk. It was an inspirational day and I can't wait to hear how much was raised across Canada. I was thinking of all of you as I took each step. You are one of my strongest sources of strength. Here's to you my Teal Sisters ❤️. I'm sharing a few pictures of my team, me and my hubby, me and my son, my granddaughter and me at the finish line. I hope they post correctly.

Thank you @alwayslearning for walking and posting your pics! It was a beautiful day to walk with such a wonderful team. I'd like to do it next year, future willing. It's funny, I am feeling shy about asking people to join me and drawing attention again. I fear I have worn out my supporters, and knowing others have problems too, don't want to demand attention again. So many think it's all good now. In thinking about it, I am sure I could get a group from my exercise class, and will push the plan next fall. We do need all the research support and attention to OC that we can get. It's funny...the only shirt I have bought is the one your team members were wearing. " Not all cancer is pink "!
The super focus on fund raising for breast cancer is frustrating, as it's the first thing people think of when fundraising. I realize it's more common and has better odds, so it's nice to support something that seems more successful. Dare I say that ovarian cancer lives matter too !!
It's great to hear your supportive words and efforts. Bravo my Teal Sister

@lbarr72 thanks it was a great day. I understand the feeling of thinking you are "over asking". I will tell you I got over that awhile ago. I learned many years ago when I used to fundraise for the United Way that the #1 reason people don't donate is because no-one personally asked them. So I ask. As well, I invite lots of people to join us me in the walk. I don't expect everyone can make it nor is interested. I get that. Everyone has lives and is so busy. As well, there are SOOOOO many other causes. However, I ask anyway and I don't feel guilty. As you said, we all need the research support and attention for OC that we can get. I hope you will be able to join next year. You will meet some great people at your walk site and be so inspired.

I love that you bought the same shirt we wear. That's awesome. I agree that breast cancer does get a lot of attention. The organization has done a phenomenal job raising their profile. It is as you said, more common. We have a ways to go for OV but the passion and energy from OCC is there and for that, I'm thankful.

I look forward to joining you from afar, when you walk next year! 🩵
