In response to this question...at a recent CT scan for which I am pre-medicated due to a previous "reaction" to the contrast dye, I had another breakthrough reaction. At that time, the radiologist informed me that I could not, going forward, have CT scans without contrast. I was a bit shocked by this as the reaction was minor. I did challenge him as I said they could increase my pre-meds as a first approach (I was on 13 hour prior and then 1 hour prior protocol). I'd heard you could do 13 hour, 7 hour and 1 hour protocol to increase the level of prednisone in your system. I was told that this was NOT an approach followed in Ontario.
I reached out to the Teal Warriors on this site to see if anyone else had experienced "allergic reactions" and what the pre-medication protocol was. I learned that a number of individuals, including some in Ontario had used the 13/7/1 premedication approach. In a recent discussion with my PMH medical team we discussed this and my team said that upon time for my next CT, we would revisit.
The information from my Teal Sisters helped me to engage with and advocate for myself with my medical team!
