  • 1.  Saying hello - asking for advice

    Posted yesterday

Hello to the teal sisters. I suppose where to start? I was diagnosed at 25 with ovarian cancer, now platinum resistant on caelyx and bevacizumab with my 3rd reoccurrence (unfortunately about 6 months post chemo from the second reoccurrence).

I recently had a small bowel obstruction because of the cancer in my abdomen that has been causing so much pain and discomfort even multiple weeks after intervention. Does anyone have any tips or tricks? It's getting to a point where the daily fight of eating/pain is really wearing me down.

The chemo and everything else is mostly tolerable while I wait to see what the future holds for my treatment.

Thank you in advance for any insight anyone has.

    C

Hello @Whatinthetumor and welcome to the forum (I'm assuming this is your first post). I'm sorry to hear that you are on your 3rd recurrence and especially so quickly after your last round of chemo. We are glad you found us and I hope we'll be able to provide you with some guidance/information.

I'm going to make an assumption, and please correct me if I'm wrong, that the cancer in your abdomen is a result of the 3rd recurrence and is thus something new. I know there are quite a few individuals in this forum that have experienced and/or dealt with bowel obstructions and resulting abdominal pain. I'm wondering if you have received any guidance from your medical team on diet modifications? I know I've read quite a few posts and that was a common theme around low fibre vs high fibre diets as a way to combat some of the issues/discomfort. Please also if you get a chance, search this forum using the search bar above (type in bowel obstructions and/or abdominal discomfort as a start). You may find a lot of information that might be useful from past and/or even recent discussions.

While I am not in a position to provide any insight personally, I'm betting you will hear from some other Teal Sisters on this site. I am sorry for your pain and I do hope that you will be able to find some comfort soon. When is your next appointment with your medical team on next steps?
