Hi @jbirch
Thank you for asking your question, and thank you @Alwayslearning for tagging me, it is an important conversation to have; we want everyone to feel comfortable participating.
As you know, OVdialogue is designed as a space where people can connect, learn from one another, and share experiences in ways that help strengthen and support the community.
When signing up for OVdialogue, you were encouraged to choose a username that doesn't reflect your real name and asked to review and agree to the OVdialogue Member Consent, which includes the Community Guidelines and Terms of Use. One of the first reminders in our Community Guidelines is that OVdialogue is a public platform. Posts can be viewed by others and may appear in search engines-this helps ensure that people who are looking for support can find the community. To support your privacy, we recommend using an alias, sharing only what feels right for you, and being mindful of personal details. We also ask that you respect the anonymity of others by referring to people only by their usernames and not sharing anyone else's information.
This is echoed in our Terms of Use, which note that while OVdialogue is designed to be a supportive space, it is public in nature. Using a pseudonym and being thoughtful about what you share helps you stay in control of your personal information, while allowing OVdialogue to remain a welcoming place where everyone can learn from and support one another.
I appreciate you asking the question. If changing your username would help you feel more comfortable engaging on the platform or would like to connect further, please send me a private message or email me at mfallis@ovariancanada.org and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
All the best,
Marianne, @mfallis_OCC
