    Hi ladies I am wondering if anyone has participated in this study at Princess Margaret Hospital. Ontario-wide Cancer TArgeted Nucleic acid Evaluation (OCTANE)

    if so did you find it beneficial?

    thanks

    The other thing you need to think about is whether or not you want to find out if you have a genetic mutation that may have been passed on to your children, grandchildren, etc. Finding a genetic mutation may also mean that other members of your family (siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, etc.) may also have the mutation. What will you do if you find you do have a mutation? A genetics counsellor is available to work through the complexities of your decision about whether or not you will share the information. I spoke to my immediate family (sons, siblings) before I was tested to see if they wanted to know or not.

    My recent biopsy was done at the beginning of May so I am still waiting for results.

    Hope this info helps with your decision. Let us know if you have any other questions.

    @flory

    Somehow the beginning of my message was not in led in the above response. Here it is…

    Hi. I recently signed up and gave blood and tumour tissue from a recent biopsy for  OCTANE. I am also signed up for the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network Study for Ontario (MOHCCN-O) and BIODIVA (again) studies. I figure…why not. It will provide more and maybe new info on my tumours. My oncologist indicated that tumours could change over time and it's been a few years since I did my first BIODIVA study.

    My first BIODIVA results did provide a genetic finding for a marker that is being studied under the current trial I am in. I say studied, not targeted, because this trial is in the early phase and they need more data to determine what markers may be affected by the drug. I am hoping that they saw something related to this marker in the early stages of developing the drug and that is why it's been listed as a marker of interest. Well…all in the name of research, right?

    I'm not certain why there are so many different genetics studies other than maybe they use different methods to test the samples and maybe test for different types of markers?

    BIODIVA is the most extensive test…hundreds of markers/genes. Whereas, these other studies are not as fulsome…but, I believe, still valuable.

    Thank you for your reply GloHo. I also submitted blood and tumour sample but have not heard back from PMH hospital yet. I'm hoping to learn more about my specific cancer and any mutations I may have. Do you know if they still accepting patients in the BIODIVA study? I know that in the US you can pay for testing through Clarity or Foundation One. I have been trying to find something like that in Canada.

    Yes…they are still recruiting. Here is the link so you can check out the inclusion/exclusion criteria:

    BIODIVA STUDY

    Note: I finally managed to get them to connect my London BIODIVA study to PMH BIODIVA study so that no matter where I am getting tissue biopsy or fluid removal (ascites, pleural effusion), the samples can be submitted to BIODIVA database. There was a geographical issue…so the biopsy I had last year at PMH did not get submitted because I was London BIODIVA. Goes to show that if you self advocate and repeat your argument enough, they will finally clue in and fix the issue 🤣.
