  • 1.  narrowing of colon?

    Posted 4 days ago
Hi everyone.  My last chemo was Nov 29, and I have been waiting and waiting for my bowel to settle and poos to become normal size again.  I have seen them get a little larger now and then, but more often they're pencil thin.    It's been a few years since surgery, and first round of chemo - and my bowel recovered to normal after that.  When I look online it seems to indicate that it is usually from inflammation, scar tissue or tumor.  My guess is that if I had scar tissue it would have  occurred before?...inflammation should have settled by
now ....blahblah   Often take magnesium at night or restorlax to ensure I go...
Perhaps I need to do the "white" diet.  But I find that all confusing - white bread and white rice - I try to restrict that stuff as it's "sugar" for my body...which is bad
I put a call in with the oncologist this morning so await a chat, but getting quite anxious/nervous.  Hopefully they'll help me sort this out.
Have bloodwork to do for my gp and the functional doctor, but waiting until tomorrow as I ate quite a few corn chips etc during the Superbowl last night...but after that will likely be on statins, and who knows, blood sugar if out of whack...perhaps diabetes stuff? and now this

Hi @brendalee ... it sounds like you have some good opportunity coming up to discuss this with your extended medical team. Hopefully they will be able to provide some insight. I know this group talks a lot about our bowels and poop. If you do a search using a few key words in the search bar at the top, you may find some past threads on this topic. So many of us have bowel issues. Sorting it all out is a journey within our overall journey. 😗💩

Not that my issues are the same as yours however, I'm two years post surgery and I have on and off again bowel issues. I was told during my routine colonoscopy last year that my sigmoid colon had narrowed, likely due to scar tissue formation from my surgery. It has led to a few bowel issues for me. I mentioned in a previous thread that my oncology team suggested I try to incorporate some elements of the "low fibre/low residue" diet. I eliminated raw veggies, and nuts as these were things that tend to really irritate my bowels. I now defer to cooked veggies and blended nuts e.g., peanut butter/nut butters that are smooth.

If you type "low fibre diet" into the search bar at the top of this page, you should come up with quite a few past threads on this topic. Our own @GloHo and @Strongwoman posted some patient resources, that provides overviews on this topic, including dietary information. I know you will do this however just as a reinforcement, make you that before you implement anything, your extended medical team is aligned as you need to ensure you are getting the nutrients you need.

I also know a few Teal Sisters kept a journal and/or kept track somehow of what they ate. The intent was to determine positively and/or negatively was might have impacted their bowels. Just a thought if that's of any help.

Please keep us posted. I hope you will get some answers from them.
