  • 1.  HRD testing for Low Grade Ovarian Cancer

Hello, I'm curious about HRD testing. I don't know a lot about it and it kept coming up at the National Symposium. Should I speak to my oncologist about getting tested? I'm BRCA negative and have Low Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer. I don't think HRD testing is covered in Alberta.

@cmcc hi, I would ask your onco for it.  I have hgsoc no brca gene, hrd testing isn't covered in BC either.  I haven't had it done yet but waiting for the info from my doctor to get it sent out for testing.  Cost is around $2000 I believe

@mcclure.carmen I have clear cell and HRD testing was not covered. I payed $2000 out of pocket. Though unlikely to be positive, it gave me a peace of mind knowing it is negative. I found it a good investment.
@meinvan depending on your job of course, but I found going back to work healing. I went back 2 months after surgery also after recurrence. It helped me take my mind of the cancer and be engaged in other people life and worries again. It made me feel useful and having a purpose. Otherwise what is left I asked myself. Just bemoaning yourself everyday? But of course different for everybody- I still have small children and going back to work, re-instituted normality which I want to keep up as long as I can. You are stronger than you think.

@Tanja I work in a very busy and stressful unit doing bedside nursing.  Beside the physically demanding part of it and the emotional stress I'm not sure how I will handle that yet for 12+ hours/shift with minimal breaks if you are lucky.  I had been working straight night shifts for 14yrs while my son was in school as I needed to be home for him while at school(autism). When I go back it will be days and nights, but my husband doesn't want me working nights anymore for my health.  Not really sure what I'll do when I go back initially but down the road may have to find a new less intense job with just day shifts.  Haven't figured that out yet

@Meinvan Yes, different for everybody. I hope that you can change your job profile and can get into a less of a stressful job. I was immediately pushed into disability from HR and I had to fight to keep my job.
