    Hi team teally wheelies ❤️

I’ve got a stomach hernia - likely from the 2 vertical abdominal incision surgeries. Anyone else have one? Curious when you were allowed to have it surgically repaired. My oncologist at PMH is saying after 2 years NED. I’d naturally love the surgery sooner but understand I may need to wait. Ta xxx

@hgtv ... "teally wheelies" 😁... hernia ... ugh. I too have a very long vertical abdominal incision but at this point only one 🤞and no hernia. I hope you'll get some relieve however out of curiosity, why did your oncologist say you had to wait 2 years NED for hernia surgery? I'm trying to understand why NED is a factor. I could understand if "healing" was a factor and not wanting to cause more irritation/inflammation in the area. It's the NED that is curious.

Regardless, did they give you any tips to manage with a hernia?

I think it’s because after 2 years our chance of reoccurance drops! Has everyone heard that stat also?? So if gosh forbid they needed to operate again if the C came back, in the same spot on the abdomen, it would’ve be as compromised. That’s why I am curious if anyone else has had hernia repair surgery earlier because I would love to have this repaired ;)

@hgtv appreciate the response. I have not heard that stat. Did your oncologist tell you that? Wouldn't that be nice if it were true.

Good morning,  I had a hernia as well I was 4.5 yrs NED when my oncologist said ok. I will say I found the repair to have a very painful recovery.  Unfortunately I believe that it triggered a reoccurrence.   As 2 months after my hernia surgery my ov cancer recurred.

I was diagnosed with HGS Ov can, stage 3B in September of 2022.  Had surgery and 6 chemo.  I followed with Naraparib (Zegula) for about 1.25-.5 years.  I had a few stops because of falling hemoglobin and platelets but they adjusted dosage and was pretty stable for a while.  Had to stop in March of 2024 because I was having surgery for hernia.  Went on it again, but hemoglo0bin and platelets fell and this time decided to stop taking it as I was HRD negative, and so was unsure if any benefit.  My blood count started going up in March or April of this year and am now in chemo for 1st recurrence.  So that's one year after off naraparib/hernia surgery.
My take on surgery for hernia is that if you need it (for example my tear was getting larger)..at a certain point it could be dangerous - they will give you surgery.  So perhaps yours is stable?  My recovery from surgery would probably have been okay except the surgeon rolled over the skin before putting in the stitches and that was painful.

Thanks all! I saw my oncologist today and she is putting in the requisition to see a hernia specialist which they said could take a couple months and the wait for the surgery will end up being a couple months so surgery may end up being close to the year 2 remission mark regardless …. Either way my brain feels better knowing the hernia situation is underway! Thanks again everyone ❤️

@brendalee thank you for sharing your story. I can't even imagine the pain from having rolled over skin and then stitches.😗

Sorry to hear about your recurrence. I hope that you are doing well through your chemo.
