    Hello all,

I'm a year past my last chemo infusion and my hair has come back in nice and thick but curly. I had very long straight hair prior to chemotherapy so having a head of curly short hair is a very big change. Some days I'm not quite sure how to manage it but on those days, I remind myself that I have hair and just laugh it away.

I've noticed a few folks on the site talking about hair regrowth etc. I found the following website from a former cancer patient, very helpful. It provided me with some much needed context and expectation management relative to timing for regrowth. I know everyone will be different but this actually helped normalize things for me as I had NO idea how long it would take for hair to regrow. It helped keep me a bit more patient. I hope it's helpful for others too.

Also...I did notice that my eyebrows and eyelashes grew in much quicker than I had expected. That made me very happy! Happy regrowth all!!!

@Alwayslearning My hair had never been completely straight, e,g. it would flip out in places where I wanted it to lie flat, but it would never have been considered curly. When it grew back after Paclitaxol in 2020, it was tightly curled until it reached almost shoulder-length when it relaxed a bit. I didn’t lose my hair with Caelyx in 2022 so I’d had 4+ years of the easiest-to-care-for hair — each morning and any time I wanted a touch-up, I’d spray my hair with water and/or coconut oil, give it a few scrunches with my fingers and I was done. It takes me longer than that to tie scarves now, and sometimes they won’t cooperate, just like on bad-hair days, I have bad-scarf days!

    Good luck with your curls!

Thanks @GGail ... I certainly won't complain about having hair even if it's crazy curly. Maybe mine will relax too once it grows. That's good to know it's possible. Your comment about 'bad-scarf day' made me laugh. I tried to wear scarves. I looked like a bad member of a street gang. I opted for beanie type hair covers last summer. I was envious of people rocked the scarves!!!

    Always learning,
Thank you for this information about hair regrowth. I would be thrilled if I got some curls or even waves out of this ordeal. Like you, I previously had very straight hair that I styled with a curling iron. The 2 mm of regrowth looks white at this point. (Before these last 2 post-surgery chemos, it was growing in as a salt & pepper shade with a bit of wave).

@LeslieA I was shocked by the curls and their longevity (I thought they'd be gone after my first few trims). It does add some spice to my hairstyling that's for sure!
