Oncology Nursing Day 2026 was celebrated on April 7th. Oncology nurses are at the heart of cancer care, offering skill, compassion, and steady support through every step of the journey. 

This day honours the vital role oncology nurses play in delivering compassionate, evidence-based cancer care, advancing practice, and supporting patients and families throughout the cancer journey. Let's celebrate the leadership, expertise, and resilience that oncology nurses bring to every care setting.

Wow...the term, "not all super heroes wear capes" is what comes to mind when I think of oncology nurses. When I was having my infusions, each of the oncology nurses during my six rounds, were a source of strength to me. They came with great advise and counsel, approached me with compassion and a sense of humour when I needed it most and were a vital part of my journey. THEY are the source of tremendous knowledge and information related to our treatment plans. When curveballs were thrown during my infusions, they were the 'boots on the ground' that figured out workaround solutions. They had knowledge not even the doctors had which comes from living and breathing our infusion experiences with us. My infusions lasted between 6-8 hours each time due to reactions etc. They treated me with patience, kindness and respect. While only a small token, I made sure to give each of my attending nurses a Tim Horton's gift card at the end of each session. They deserved so much more. I can't thank them enough...Melissa, Thelma, Dave, Jeannie, Michelle, Stanley and Ahnia 💓
