  • 1.  Bridging Science and Survivorship : Ovarian Cancer Conference

    Posted 2 days ago

    Hello Sisters,

I have decided to attend this conference in May at UBC and registered today. I signed up for the entire conference, hoping that I will learn more about advances and treatment options in the field of ovarian cancer and report back to you. There is a patient day that I will attend followed by several days of science-related presentations. I hope my brain can absorb the information well enough. I will take good notes!
If anyone else from our Odialogue plans to attend, please let me know. It would be so great to meet you in person.

Hi @LeslieA I'm so excited for you that you can attend. I believe @KrazyKat also mentioned she has registered or was considering going. It will be great to have OVd members with boots on the ground. I appreciate you taking notes and reporting back. It will be interesting and exciting to hear things from the patient perspective.

@LeslieA, I had a serious look at the conference and was considering going, if only for the patient dayt.  It looks like it will be very informative.  As luck would have it, I have one other "adventure" on my calendar in the next few months and it falls on the same dates.  Darn, would have been great to meet up with you!   I'm in Nanaimo and I think I saw somewhere that you are Victoria, so maybe our paths will cross another time.  I hope you enjoy the conference.  Please share with us what you learn!

Hey Leslie, how exciting you are attending the conference!  I actually thought of going myself but I'm not very confident about taking on the city by myself! I wish I had touched base with you sooner and perhaps we could have gone together.  I can't wait to hear all about it.

    Hello Joan,
If you want to reconsider, I would be happy to take you there. I used to live in Vancouver years ago and can get us out to UBC. You would need to book a room for the Thursday night on campus unless you had somewhere else to stay. I was planning to stay until Sunday (unless the presentations are too science-y for me to comprehend). If you wanted to do a one-day, there would be efficient ways by bus to get you back to the Horseshoe Bay ferry.

Thanks for the offer Leslie!  I have now made plans to look after my great grandkids that weekend.

    Hello Leslie,
I hope your trip was amazing.  I am heading west in May to visit and explore, so I am booked to attend the conference on May 29th, for the Patient Day. I was hoping to meet some of our west coast sisters, and look very much forward to it. My husband is coming too. He has certainly shared this patients trip, even when she isn't feeling patient !!

    lbarr72,
I would be so pleased to meet up with you on Patient Day at the conference. We will likely have name tags, and I will look for you. My full name is Leslie Fletcher. I am glad your husband is attending.
Are you planning to visit Vancouver Island as well?

    LeslieA,
I am excited that we can meet. I have very much enjoyed your observations and comments on our dialogue ! My medical history is similar to yours and I had hoped to cross paths in BC.
We are traveling to Vancouver to my niece's, and are heading over to the island on Monday, May 25th. From Nanaimo, we are heading across to Ucluelet for 3 nights. I have been to the north before, and last time there we stayed north of Sooke at Point No Point, but I have yet to see the wide open Pacific, which I want to do, so will see Tofino as well. I had looked up Campbell River, which looks amazing as well, in hopes of connecting, but this will work too. We will return to Vancouver on May 28th, to be ready for the conference day one on the 29th.  I look very much forward to meeting you.
Linda ( and Dave will be there too) Barr

If it's possible to get a direct connection, I can give you my phone/text number too.

    Hello Linda,
I think you will enjoy the west coast of Vancouver Island. The weather in May should be warm and sunny as well.
We can exchange contact information before then so it will be easy to find each other.
    Looking forward to it,

@LeslieA and @lbarr72 I think you both already know this but just in case....you can private message each other in this site to exchange personal information. Just click on the person's 'username' and you should be taken to their Bio where you will see 'send message' on the left side, to send a Private Message.

I'm delighted for you both to have the opportunity to meet in person 🩵😊
