@Readersmaven did you ask your oncologist or radiologist? I know cancer patients have had accommodatons all based on their treatments. Must say tho they are having chemo or stem cell transplants and not radiation. My son has a neuro muscular problem and was told after his first jab he would be called in 6 weeks. The call should come any day now. I was surprised at that however.

I meant @Fearless - Vol Mod : Glad you're feeling well - or at least, better, these days and enjoying the season and taking the chemo in stride!0
-
Yes, a dreary day here in south eastern Ontario. I am so fortunate that I got my second shot of Pfizer Tuesday. I have felt like I have been run over by a truck since then. A bit better today, but not much. Honestly, worse than chemo for me anyways, but very grateful.0
-
I need to run. Good to hear from you all. I hope you continue to have a great day. I'm off to babysit my infant grandson, who lucky for me, sees no one and in my bubble. Seeing him is better than an antidepressant!1
-
Thanks @Tinazzie...yes, had chemo yesterday. Second time with the Cisplatin replacement for the Carboplatin and it went just fine. Tired now is all but so far no bad after effects. This is cycle 6 and may go to cycle 7 but in the home stretch thankfully. Scan on the 12th so we'll see then.
@Taita sorrry you're having side effects from the vaccine. I lucked out....nothing either time. Not even a sore arm. Hopefully it will pass quickly. But at least you have the protection now.
1 -
@gaylestorm enjoy your time with the wee one. Lucky you. And thanks for popping in. We'll talk later.

I'm very grateful to have the level of protection that comes with the first dose. @CountryLiving... no I didn't talk to either oncologist or radiologist about timing. Onco said get it when offered but that was it. I see her again in June, after a scan to evaluate results from radiation and whether I will need to resume chemo. If yes, then I'll ask about getting shot sooner.1

Anyone registered for the virtual symposium? I am. Not sure for the entire program but that's what's great about the virtual approach. You can come in for topics that have interest and then skip something that might not be as interesting or you have other obligations to attend to.0
-
I am registered. Looking forward to it!0
-
@Fearless - Vol Mod I've registered for symposium, as you say, with virtual you just connect with topics of interest.
I wasn't able to join in for Jennifer's session on Monday, glad to hear it went well. Like you, I find I gain a lot of insight from others so having an opportunity to learn is wonderful.0 -
@taita, OCC did a great job on the longer symposium back in September so I expect this to be pretty good too. I skipped out of the networking at the end last time but think I'll stay on for it this time. It's nice to be able to see some of our fellow survivors and have the opportunity to chat a bit on the Zoom platform.0
-
@CountryLiving just wondering if you got info you were looking for about exercise program?0
-
@Readersmaven Jennifer is a truly top notch resource for us. I do hope she'll be continuing something on that topic moving forward. It's always seems a tough one that many try to avoid but really I find it very freeing to be able to have those conversations with others. Very interesting though to hear how each of us seems to be looking at the future with this disease so differently....the issues, the decision processes. Like the disease it's so individual.

@Fearless - Vol Mod I am looking forward to hearing the comedian. I have listened to her TedTalk and she was so funny and yet enlightening.0
-
I agree with you, @Fearless - Vol Mod, I think Jennifer is a great resource and this topic in particular is such an interesting one which many of us avoid for various reasons. Would be happy to connect with her again when possible.1
-
@CountryLiving I'd forgotten they had included her this time. Thanks for the recommendation. I think we could all use a good laugh these days!

@CountryLiving glad to hear you got info. I would definitely do it again if the opportunity was available.
I registered for the program through Wellspring and started it last week. I find it keeps me mentally on track, if that makes sense.0 -
@Readersmaven if this is the exercise program, then absolutely makes sense....healthy body, healthy mind they say. I wish the neuropathy in my lower legs would go away. I really find it inhibits my ability to exercise properly, especially walking which I really used to enjoy. Once my chemo is done I'm going to try Gabapentin. I have some but am so loaded on meds to keep me from reacting to the chemo now that I hate to introduce yet again another drug into my system right now. So I'll wait and then hope it helps

Well ladies....time to say au revoir again for another week. Wishing all of you a great week until we meet again.
Glad to see everyone getting their vaccines.....this too shall pass but faster the more we get vaccinated....although when they say we need to develop herd immunity I never thought I'd appreciate being referred to as part of a herd LOL.
Stay safe, be well and see you again next week......same time, same station.

@Fearless - Vol Mod...neuropathy is terrible. Mine is slowly improving, it's what I dread most about a return to chemo!
I tried gabapentin but didn't find it made much of a difference zoo after a few months I stopped taking it.
Fingers crossed it works for you.1 -
THURSDAY MAY 6TH AND WELCOME TO ANOTHER LIVE ONLINE CHAT......
Nothing really to share today other than saddened to see the Covid numbers here not declining in the least. In fact for my region, KFLA, it's been consistently much higher the past month than it's been the entire year+ despite significant efforts to vaccinate and a stay home order. Although I have to admit driving into Kingston yesterday for chemo, I remarked to my husband that during the first stay home order last year the city was like a ghost town. Yesterday I noticed no difference in traffic, parking lots were full......On a happy note though, AB is opening vaccine eligibility to those 30+ so my son, age 33, intends to spend whatever time it takes today to get himself an appointment. I will breathe a major sigh when I know he's got some protection.
Reminders:
I'm still looking for volunteers to help support this site. So far I haven't been knocked over by the rush to apply and not sure I can keep up this pace on my own forever. I expect, although we are almost 800 strong, the call-out is only reaching those who are active and many of those, you gals included are in treatment. So I truly understand any hesitancy to commit. But please keep it in mind. Hopefully OCC can do a bit of an outreach to the larger population for me.
And the World Ovarian Cancer Symposium is on Saturday. You can sign in and out as topics are of interest. I'll probably join for the Survey results. Could definitely use a good giggle so the comedy performance has some appeal, as does the nutrition section. May be they can fix my terrible eating habits....NOT. And I might join one of the Cockteals depending on what group topics they break out into.
For more information on either reminder go to the Discussions for my posts on the topics.
So it's now 1pm or close to....so LET'S GET STARTED.....who's with us today? What's new? What's top of mind in your life right now....OVC, Covid, the weather, the lockdowns, the economy....????? Or have you got some fun or wonderful news to share with us?0 -
Good Morning. Im sorry to hear that number are not declining there. Its frustrating when you are following all the orders. Here in BC we saw for the first time a decline in icu and hospitalizations..I did a happy dance. On my front I had my CA125 done and it still moving up not high but past normal. Im on Zejula and now going to reduce the amount, as it doesnt seem to be working and have a better quality of life. I am super lucky to be surrounded by family and friends. How is everyone else?1
-
My wonderful news is that I was able to have my son and his family over for a socially distant gathering outside. It almost felt normal. Grandchildren are just the best. AND my children got their astrazenca vaccine last week with varying side effects.1
-
@gaylestorm right now it's just you and me. Although I'm finding many joining in later so hopefully in the next 10 or 15 minutes we'll have some more of the gals join in. If not, don't feel you have to stay on until 2. I'll just shut down early If there's no interest. A few of our regulars are here in Ontario so I suspect the fact we have the first no rain, sunny day in over a week might be prompting them to prioritize getting some of that nice air. Rain forecasted again tomorrow BOO HOO. But the farmers need it so I won't complain.
So glad to see some positives in BC as far as Covid goes. My best friend lives out in North Van and my husband's ex, with whom I'm friendly live on the Island so I root for their continued good health. My happy dance right now...message from my son. He got his vaccine appointment confirmed.....Saturday. That Alberta booking system is the best!
Now to get through our lock down here, which is scheduled for May 20 but I can't see that happening given no indication of anything improving and I expect the repercussions of Mother's Day to contend with.

@gaylestorm so happy for your family reunion and so jealous. It must have been just amazing even though you had to distance. I haven't had my son close in over a year and half and it's killing me. But now, with him getting his first vaccine, we're closer to our plan for him to come home in June. Now it's just getting these stay at home and no border crossing orders gone.

Sorry to be late to the chat. Busy day that turned into a crazy one. I just gave an interview to be published about Ovarian Cancer and my journey. I am a public figure and now that I have announced formally that I am not running again I did a one on one. Hopefully it will help other women detect this dreadful disease sooner rather than later. Felt good to talk about all the positives and there are many besides sitting in the wonderful sunshine doing it!0
-
@taita that's just awesome. Love to see the article if you can share a link to it. I didn't know you were a politician? And how wonderful to be able to do it outside today. I spent part of this morning just out digging in the garden getting it ready to plant, but really just being outside and feeling the sun on my face.1

Our daughter and her wife arrive tonight. They lived with us for five months through surgery and chemo and because we are moving and need to pack and such, they are moving in for a month to help out. They isolated for three weeks, have had their first vaccines and so it makes lots of sense. They are considered caregivers for me so allowed under the rules. I even phoned the chief of police to confirm just in case I have a treatment Monday so the timing is great too. We are very fortunate.0
